Don't get hung up on the one phrase you disagreed with to the point you are blinded to any qualifying, clarifying, or moderating statements that may follow it, or may have preceded it, or to the overall itended meaning of it.

Many readers who write to object to some argument have the answer right there in the argument, and all we need to do is point it out. The frequency with which that has happened from well intentioned readers (we discount hate letters) shows that many people are too focussed on some word they didn't like, to the point that they fail to read and comprehend most anything else in the argument.
